I was selling at the craft fare ‘Hand Made and Bound’ with my friends Alex Mellon and Nick Morley, we all did pretty well, sold out prints and spread the word of LCC design students

I made a publication as a side project for my project on pattern, it is focusing on the different patterns on the London transport system, a kind of catalogue-I really enjoyed making it and am quite pleased with the out-come!

A screen print I made for Hand Made and Bound, I didn’t make enough and sold out in a couple of hours! More have been made!

I fiddled with the layout of a previous publication I made on hunting rabbits for food….I much prefer this layout-its nice as it shows my progression as a designr compared t my self a while back!

More Pattern Research-From the geological to the biological…Looking at biological microscopic images and their patterns, I realised that the patterns in both rocks and the above are quite similar constructs…

More Research into Pattern-I popped to the Natural History Museum today to go looking for some inspiration for my project…

‘Patterns on the Motorway’-quick look into more research around pattern and process, imagery created from motorway markings…still need some work, but a nice start to some simple yet effective patterrns

Research/Experimentation Into Repetition/Pattern-

Here is some experimental photography as part of my research process into repetition and pattern in the environments around me…

These are shavings from the Nisan/Toyota factory I was working at, I created them while shaving down fenders…

Got some pretty abstract imagery from back lighting etc. but I think its quite cool

If only I had a macro-lens! I reckon the shots would been much better…

Went to Burlington Gardens amongst all the mentally rich art collectors and snooped around…I came across a small excibition of Ian Davenports new series called ‘Prismatic’. The canvases are huge blankets of  paint cascading into a pool of mess…really great stuff! If only I had a spare 20 grand

His work was much like some surface design work I have been doing recently which wil be up on here in the near future!

‘Modern Thought’-A university project based upon 2 completely separate ideals/principles/thoughts being paired together at random…

I was partnered with a friend called Sophie Chatellier. I had the principal of ritual and she had the 60’s/70’s counter culture movement of the Weatherman Underground…

The 2 principals went together quite nicely…

After much research and many hours talking, we decided to create a piece based upon found footage film… this was a fresh challenge as it was a totally new working method to me…

The film was meant to represent the rituals of protest and the youth of the counter culture movment of the 60’s and 70’s…

I think the video worked out ok, but if we had more time I think it could of been better and we could of worked more on conveying the concepts…

‘MA Publishing Final Print’-Here is the final produced book, I dont think they picked the best design to be honest, but they seemed very pleased with it…

as a bonus they put one of my illustrations in it as well which is always nice!

‘MA Publishing’ - I was asked to do a book cover for a group of MA students who were producing the book ‘twenty 10’. The book was about the year from a holistic view, including many issues from politics to culture from the year.

My response to this was varied at first, but after working on few different ideas/concepts I came to the conclusion that instead of getting hooked up on the events of the year and trying to represent them visually, I decided to try and represent time.

I found this a challenge at first but I ended up getting some interesting out comes…

I came up with the concept of time as a blur…I worked with photography and type to produce my final piece…unfortunately they had a change of idea and decided they wanted the cover to be screen printed, so i had to start a fresh…

Carrying on the theme of representing time I came up some 4 colour designs that were applicable to the method of printing…

‘Relation of Shape and Form within Type’-Inspired by the artist Helio Oiticica’s work, I set out to create a typographical piece in which tension and form were the key objective.

After working at it for a while I came to this final piece, disecting and zooming in to letter shapes trying to find points of tension and compositional bliss…

For the final piece I ended up painting my abstract ABC on hand made 1m x 1m canvases…I felt the hand painted element gave the letters a lot more character and integrity…

‘Ethereal Chime’-A book design project for university, based upon a partner’s ‘place’ of choice. We had to reflect the environment and ethos of the area…

My partner took me to ‘Trinity Buoy Wharf’, London’s only remaining lighthouse. At the top of the lighthouse is a piece of sound art. Started on the millenium the self generating music is set to be going until the year 3000…

After researching the area and it’s theme’s, I landed on the principle of ‘Sound-Waves’. The waves represent both the sea/shipping theme of the area and the sound art/title….

as the name suggests, has close links to the UK’s nautical industry.

For nearly 200 years the Corporation of Trinity House was responsible for the repair, installation and maintenance of Britain’s lighthouses, lightships and buoys.

‘A day at the races’-It was my friends (joint) birthday, and to celebrate we went to York races, to get shitfaced whilst looking respectable! I made this card for my friends, obviously carrying the theme of the event…
